Is The Knead KC01 Worth it?

The KC01 by Knead Furniture was on my short-list of Ergonomic office chairs to purchase for my home office setup so I was very appreciative that Knead agreed to collaborate with the visionarywatts platform. One of the simple things that Knead executed well were the colors. At the time of my writing this, consumers have two options: Light (grey and white) and Black. Knead highlight’s several features about the Knead KC01 on their website. Below are my unfiltered thoughts and opinions.

4D Armrest

Being that Knead is made up of former Steelcase employees, I’m surprised the armrest is firmer than the Steelcase Series 2 office chair. The arm rest isn’t too firm to turn me off but it definitely caught my attention when I unboxed it. To put it simply, the arm rest doesn’t feel like it will cause any bone pain or anything like that but the arm rest CAN’T be firmer than this in future iterations.

Aluminum 5-Star Base

I’m glad the five star base is made of aluminum. Anything other than plastic pleases me because you don’t want to sit in your chair one day and hear a crack in a plastic base. Trust me, that’s happened with one of those heavy duty plastic chairs they market to gamers.

Seat Depth

Adjusting the seat depth is pretty straight forward. I’ve never been one to push the seat outward simply because I don’t like feeling that gap between the seat and the back frame, however, I appreciate that the adjustable option is there. Regarding the seat itself, while sitting in the KC01 for a week, I never bottomed out while sitting in the chair. That’s a plus since that’s always a concern of mine.

Recline Tension

The recline tension control gives me resistance when I lean back or none at all if I keep it decreased. I discovered that my favorite setting for the back lock and control tension is to leave the back unlocked and push the tension into its highest resistance.

Back Lock

After reading the guide, I learned I can lock myself in a mode that’s between upright and fully leaned back position. Plus, I can lock myself into the fully reclined mode. Personally I’m never going to lock myself into anything other than upright but it’s good to know the option is there for those of you that want to do so.

Adjustable Lumbar

No matter what direction I lean in, I feel the thermoplastic elastomer move with me which is important because it would really suck if I leaned to one side and had an non-responsive lumbar system cut into my back. This includes the flexible frame as well. I’ve never owned a chair that moves with me as much as this does.

Headrest

I like how the headrest can rotate and down and the height can be adjusted up and down as well. It’s made up of the same cocoon mesh material that is on the back of the chair. In terms of comfort, it hits the spot for me. I can feel the fabric moving with my head and it  feels comfortable enough for me to fall asleep on.

Final Thoughts

The Knead KC01 Ergonomic Office Chair by Knead Furniture is very aesthetically pleasing. The use of adjustment pull tabs for the chair’s controls is really innovative because all the other chairs I’ve sat in had levers and knobs that interfered with the visual lines of the chair. That might not be something you catch at first glance but that’s something that makes this chair even more aesthetically pleasing. The cocoon mesh fabric does indeed feel very durable and breathable and I haven’t had any “swamp crotch” concerns when my body heat elevates after intense video games sessions.

So the question that remains is the Knead KC01 office chair worth it? I’m not sure what the price of the Knead KC01 will be in the future but grabbing it at $450 without a headrest or $500 with a headrest is something I would do considering all its features and what the competition is priced at.
